Hello Friends,
This summer, I have been reminded again and again why community is at the heart of politics. As your MLA, my work doesn’t begin or end at the Province House, it lives in the streets, community centres, markets, prayer houses, festivals and schools of Fairview-Clayton Park. I have been proud to support several celebrations and community programs that impact residents locally and throughout Nova Scotia.
It was a pleasure to host my first community BBQ at the Fairview Farmer’s Market last month. We had over 300 attendees stop by our stall to share food, stories and laughter. The Market runs until the end of October every Thursday from 4-7 at Centennial Arena (27 Vimy Ave), be sure to visit this fall for local food, treats, and artisan products!
I recently had the opportunity to join the incredible staff and volunteers at Nova Village NS (formerly the Fairview Resource Center, 6 Titus St) for their first annual Backpack Giveaway. It was a privilege to support this important initiative to ensure students have the tools they need to start the school year with confidence. Nova Village is a family support hub that develops and delivers parenting and wellness programs, publishes a monthly food calendar, hosts a weekly community cafe and so much more. My staff and I are onsite the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 9-1. Drop by and say hello, no appointment needed!
Don’t miss the 2025 Halifax Aging Your Way Expo on September 27th at the Cedar Event Center (111 Clayton Park Dr). This free event is designed to connect seniors, caregivers and those supporting aging parents with local experts, services, and resources. There will be presentations and information on a wide range of topics, including health, wellness, housing, financial planning, and home modifications. I hope to see you there.
My colleagues and I will be returning to the Legislature Tuesday, September 23rd to resume the 1st session of the 65th general assembly. We will continue to fight for solutions that address the rising cost of living, and will bring forward the calls we’ve heard from our constituents for greater accountability and transparency from the province.
Please don’t hesitate to share your feedback, concerns and questions with my office at linahamid@nsmla.ca or 902-404-3220. Hearing directly from you helps me best represent the interests of our community, both inside the Legislature and out.
